Firefox 57, also known as Firefox Quantum, will be released on November 14. It will bring some significant changes to the Firefox rendering engine to improve performance and open the door for more new features in the future. Here is what you need to know if you are a user of the NVDA screen reader. About Reader. The Reader add-on for Firefox strips out unnecessary page elements down to the main content of a web page and presents it in a simple, clean, and very easy to read format allowing you to focus on the articles and stories (etc) that you're interested in reading without being distracted by all of the page noise and clutter that is found on most web pages. Learning to use a computer with a screen reader doesn’t have to be a daunting task! The American Foundation for the Blind is here to help with a set of free tutorials called “Learn NVDA,” which provide an easy-to-follow introduction to using Microsoft Windows with Nonvisual Desktop Access. Interface between the browser and screen reader Browsers relay roles, states, properties, and events to the API Screen readers access the API and are notified of changes in elements, states, properties.
Firefox Text Reader
For example, the most widely used screen reader, JAWS, is hard coded to work best in Internet Explorer. The second most widely used screen reader, NVDA, is hard coded to work best in Firefox. This includes ARIA support. Here is the reason why. If you're running Mac OS X 10.9 or later, install the latest version of Reader. For step-by-step instructions, see Install Adobe Acrobat Reader DC on Mac OS. Select your operating system, a language, and the version of Reader that you want to install.

Installing Firefox
Narrator: In this tutorial we'll be downloading and installing the Mozilla Firefox web browser. A web browser is simply a program that runs on your computer that is able to communicate with servers on the internet which present you, the User, with web pages. The internet is based on standards, so any compliant web browser should be able to provide access to content in the same way, with the only difference being peripheral features such as bookmark management. When using a screen reader however, there's an extra layer of complexity that some browsers don't handle very well. So with that in mind, Firefox is our preferred web browser to pair with NVDA, but other browsers, including Internet Explorer, may work for you as well. In the next tutorial however, we will be covering the basics of browsing the web using Firefox, so it will be easier to follow along if you are using the same browser. To begin press the Windows key to bring up the Start Menu.
